First appearances versus costume variants
Collectors message us after pulling a spectacular armor cover and asking for “the first issue.” Often the interior is a later fight, while the debut lives in a plainer file with a smaller figure in the corner.
A first-appearance index therefore records three layers: cameo (a silhouette or name), debut (the story that introduces the person), and costume landmark (the issue the famous suit arrives). NFT thumbnails collapse those layers into one image.
We cite the printed story title and the credited writers rather than fan nicknames. That habit keeps the index usable when two drops share similar art.
Portal Route Grid is not Marvel’s archive. If a later reprint re-labels a debut, we note the conflict instead of erasing it.
